Red
The first destination on Rainbow’s grand tour

Was Red – and she must have found eight shades or more!

From a woman in crimson in a Vietnam bridge,

To a scarlet red flower on a high mountain ridge

To a sweet Buddhist monk, all smiling and wise. . .

Maroon were his robes – and kind were his eyes!

Red was a temple, a burgundy space

With a lone woman praying for courage and grace.

And so was the yummy Thai rambutan fruit:

Spiky to touch, yet sweet to the tooth!

There were six shades of kumkum – an Indian powder

Used to give spiritual statues their power.

And an Indian sari (which is like a sarong)

Was strikingly ruby – and eighteen feet long!

Sunfire!  Cardinal!  Strawberry!  Brick!

So many reds!  What a marvelous trick!

Amazed and excited that Red was so bold,

Rainbow prepared for what Orange might hold.
